Living My 1 Life

My Last Day In Milwaukee

6/20/2018

I left Milwaukee a little before mid April 2018.  I had spent 6 months there, basically the whole winter and it was beautiful.  Deep down I wanted to leave kicking and screaming but I didn't; I was calm, cool and collected. "This chapter is over. But don't worry, everything works out how it should. You don't understand it now but one day you will", is what I told myself as I boarded my plane (with the biggest knot in my throat) back to El Paso, Tx.  See I really loved Milwaukee, everything about it. The history, the culture, the food, the beer and especially the company. And I will admit, I didn't want to leave, I had to.  More of that in a different book.
So going back to my last day there I took a snapchat video to keep my spirits up and it's mainly about 2 things, Jeffrey Dahmer and my last meal in Milwaukee. I know, sounds depressing, but it's not. It was a good day.

I had recently discovered that I was living very close to where the infamous Dahmer lived.  And I'm not wanting to bring attention to him but rather to bring attention to the lack of attention we tend to give when something is obviously off.  Looking the other way or not wanting to get involved is what has become more and more acceptable. I do, however, see some changes now. I think that in light of all the political disarray and through social media, we are slowly getting away from that 'none f my business' mentality and that is good. I hope the bad guys always get caught. I hope there is always someone paying attention and actually doing something about it.
Now moving onto my meal, I had discovered the Milwaukee Public Market early when I had first moved there. I fell in love almost instantly. The market was small but just big enough to have all the best variety of foods.  I highly suggest if you ever are in the area that you have the clam chowder at St.Paul's Fish Market and the Whole Lobster special. Or skip the Lobster and move down to the Foltz Family Market and have them grill you up a sausage or brawt, many to chose from and made fresh daily. My favorite is the Jalapeño Pepperjack or the Philly Cheesesteak Bratwurst.  It's served on a soft pretzel bun with a delicious homemade garlic mayo.  Also, don't leave without picking up a perfect combination of flavor infused Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar from Oro Di Oliva. My favorite is Persian Lime and Blackberry Ginger Balsamic.  Your homemade salads or marinades will never be the same. The people are also great, I'd like to believe they were all my friends. I could probably write 10 pages of my taste experience at this market but I won't.   You'll just have to go see for yourself.
I really do miss Milwaukee, I'm just super grateful for the time I had there. It surely was a blessing.
